Get to Know Us Our Mandate

In agreeing with Rev. Prof. Joseph Osei in his book entitled “The Challenges of Sustaining Emergent Democracies”, Ghana First Coalition (GFC) is providing alternatives to political parties in the private domain.

GFC is the realm of organized socio-political life that is voluntary, self-generating, self-supporting, autonomous from the State or government, and bound by the legal order or set of shared rules by its constitution crafted and endorsed on the 17th day of August, 2020.

GFC is characterized by their collective involvement in the public sphere as CITIZENS to express interest, passions, and exchanged information and ideas, and work toward mutual goals. In particular, GFC shall make demands on the State and hold the State officials accountable.

GFC as an intermediary institution between the private sector and the State, can cooperate or collaborate with the government in power, but no means can GFC become part or arm of any government.

Members of GFC are therefore unarmed citizens outside the government and will consist of mostly political associations, traditional leaders, students, educators, market women, farmers, journalists, laborers, priests, nurses, teachers, doctors, faith-based communities, lawyers and as well as respective workers unions and professional associations.

Given the varied membership of GFC, religious leaders and leaders of the intellectual community are by definition, leaders of GFC, Invariably, GFC leaders have the responsibility to facilitate the achievements of its goals and objectives as stated but not limited to its constitution:

  1. Serving as an alternative to political parties and offering refuge for those shut out of their rights due to not being members of any given political parties, and enhancing the bargaining power of interest groups and providing inclusive mechanism for all Citizens.

  1. Working together with the sophisticated middle classes will function collectively and effectively as check and against the excesses of government, human rights violations, abuse of rule of law, and monitoring of application of constitutional provisions and presidential and parliamentary elections across all polling stations.

  1. Increasing the participation and the skills of all various segments of society and instilling a sense of tolerance, thrift, hard work, moderation, compromise among the various competing parties in the society.

  1. Mitigating the excesses of fundamentalists, extremists, and maximalists who tend to have a narrow view of life, and proving alternatives for conflict resolution within multi-faceted societies.

  1. Serving as recruiting grounds for and the training of prospective members of the political or economic classes to enhance the quality of participants in government.

  1. GFC leaders in no doubt represent the kind of People Power that no State or government can afford to ignore or take lightly.

  1. Endeavoring to have close relationship with the American Civil liberties Union (ACLU) and to grow it within Africa nations to empower Ghanaian and African citizens against despotic governments.

  1. Poising to finding solutions to Ghana and Africa’s dilemma of development by intensifying process of economic development and political interdependence with Africa nations and intercontinental partners towards decolonization of mindsets of citizens.
